Buddhism has been around for over 2500 years and has had an immense impact on global culture, art, and architecture. Throughout the centuries, Buddhist influence has been found in many places and can be seen in the unique and often intricate artwork which has been crafted to reflect its teachings. From the intricate stone carvings found in many Asian countries to the majestic statues, paintings and sculptures that dot the landscape of many Tibetan, Thai and Nepalese locations, Buddhism had a major impact on art and architecture.<\/p>\n

Buddhist art is an expression of the religion, with various forms of artwork having been created to reflect its teachings. From the depictions of the Buddha, to religious symbols such as stupas and mandalas, to stories and images from the Jataka tales, Buddhist art is instantly recognizable and has been around for thousands of years. Therefore, it could be said that one of the biggest impacts Buddhism has had on art and architecture is the proliferation of its imagery, which can be seen in many places around the world.<\/p>\n

Buddhism had a major influence on architecture as well. Many temples, monasteries and other religious buildings were created to reflect the teachings of Buddhism. Not only do each of these buildings have an aesthetic purpose, but many of them also contain valuable texts, sculptures and artwork, many of which are designed to help the individual understand the teachings of Buddhism. Additionally, these buildings often contain meditation areas and prayer halls, giving each individual the opportunity to reflect on the teachings in a peaceful environment.<\/p>\n

In terms of art, Buddhism was a major factor in shaping and inspiring many forms of creative expression, particularly in Asia and parts of Europe. Buddhist art can be seen in numerous paintings and sculptures as well as in the intricate stone and wood carvings which are widely found in many locations. Additionally, many of these pieces of artwork depict images and stories related to the religion, thus providing an insight into the beliefs and teachings of Buddhism.<\/p>\n
