The path to becoming an architecture professor is not a straight one. There are many different routes one can take and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. However, there are some key steps that all aspiring architecture professors should take.

First, it is important to earn a degree in architecture from an accredited institution. After completing an undergraduate or master’s degree in architecture, many individuals go on to complete a PhD in the field.

Once you have earned your advanced degree, the next step is to find a position teaching at a college or university. Many architecture professors begin their careers as adjunct faculty, teaching one or two classes per semester while also working in their chosen field of practice.

As you build up your teaching experience, you may also want to pursue research opportunities. Doing research in your field of interest will make you a more competitive candidate when applying for tenure-track positions.
