In computing, Tableau is a general-purpose visualization tool that is widely used in business intelligence and analytics. Tableau produces interactive visualizations in the form of dashboards and worksheets that can be accessed through a web browser or a mobile device.

The Tableau architecture is based on a client-server model. The Tableau Server is the central component that stores and renders visualizations. The Tableau Server can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud. The Tableau Server uses a number of engines to process data and render visualizations.

The Tableau Desktop is the client application that is used to create visualizations. The Tableau Desktop is a Windows or Mac application that can be installed on a user’s computer. The Tableau Desktop can connect to data sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, and text files. The Tableau Desktop can also connect to the Tableau Server to publish visualizations.

The Tableau Public is a free service that allows users to publish visualizations to the web. The visualizations are hosted on the Tableau Public server and can be viewed by anyone. The Tableau Public does not require a Tableau license.
